Welcome To Shropshire Coffee
We have been roasters of fine coffee since
1958, and have always used traditional equipment to slowly
roast the highest quality coffee beans to achieve distinctive
flavored coffee blends.
Shropshire Coffee’s policy is to support
the coffee growers, by buying coffee that has been purchased
direct from the Farms under the Fairly Traded or Community
Coffee system and Rain Forest Alliance sustainable coffees,
guaranteeing the farmers a premium for their coffee. Fairly
traded Coffee or Community Coffee is not a branded product
and therefore no money is spent on advertising or wages
to promote the product. Branded products can have the reverse
effect, in as much as, if less scrupulous suppliers begin
to compete, prices will be lowered having a knock on effect
on the growers who are locked into the brand.
Coffee bought under this system can be 30%
more expensive than that purchased on the open coffee markets,
no money is spent on branding or advertising, allowing us
to target money to the farmers and their workers and the
coffee community in general. Also this gives us some control
over the coffee produced to guarantee high quality coffee.
Shropshire Coffee’s main supplier of raw green coffee beans is D.R. Wakefield & Company Ltd., and have been using John Brown’s expertise for over 20 years! A visit to their home page is an education in the production and sourcing of raw green coffee beans.
We have coffee from Brazil (Fazenda Fortaleza),
Costa Rica (West Valley Naranjo with over 3000 member Farmers),
Colombia (Popoyan Estate Women’s Co-operative), the
Indian farms of Bibi in the region of Sunti Copper and Nath
in the western region of Gat.
Colombian coffees predominately feature in
our blends. Formed in 1927 to
guarantee a fair price for growers and farmers or Cafeteros.
More than 560,000 Cafeteros ( coffee farmers ) own the co-operative
and the program has an immeasurable impact on the total
infrastructure of the Nation. Transport, schools and health
centres make a real difference to millions of families in
Colombia.
All our freeze dried coffee comes from FNC wholly
owned factory in Chinchina
Colombia. 79 years of Fair and Ethical Trading.
Coffees from the Rainforest Alliance are
also used, this ensures that the farmers receive more for
their coffee thus negating the need to cut down more Rainforest and destruction of wild life. On farms certified
by the Rainforest Alliance the environment and wild life
are conserved. The farmers, workers and their families are
treated with respect, the infrastructure of the communities
becomes sustainable, medical care, education, clean water
and transport. 17 years of Fair and Ethical Trading.
By buying direct we can guarantee that more
of the money we pay for our coffee goes direct to the farmers,
workers and their families. A Sustainable, Fair and Ethical
way of Trading.
We also have a full range of coffee machines and water treatment
units, and our own engineers that are able to undertake
repairs from simple maintenance to full service and rebuilds
of machines.
For your ultimate enjoyment of the perfect
cup of freshly ground coffee we offer a complete customer
service and the finest blends of coffees, thus providing
a package leaving nothing to chance.
